See Marina Central in a different light — and colour.
Discovering all things red this SG60 on a colour walk with The Rooftop Club. We caught up with Sherrie from Marina Central about soaking in the SG60 spirit this National Day.
Who is Marina Central for?
Marina Central is for everyone. We organise experiences and initiatives all year round and they are usually free for everyone to enjoy, with the goal of championing common good at the heart of all that we do. We support local talents and changemakers across various communities, such as in dance, art, music, sustainability and wellbeing. We also have initiatives to support the businesses in the district.
What makes the district special or unique?
We reimagine the many public spaces in our district to bring fresh experiences to members of the public. Our goal is to create opportunities at our spaces for shared memories and human connection.
Why is Marina Central the perfect place to soak in the SG60 spirit this National Day?
There are many good (and hidden gems of) spots from which to catch spectacular views of the state flag flypast, special F-15SG fighter jet aerial displays and of course the fireworks from the National Day Parade. Being surrounded by Marina Square, Millenia Walk, South Beach Avenue and Suntec City also means that you can fill your belly the delicious food offerings while enjoying the NDP festivities. While you’re here, you can support the many homegrown brands too like Commune, Benjamin Barker, Pedro, Charles & Keith, Kawata House of Socks, and Aftershock.
What do you hope people will feel or discover when they walk through the district?
We hope people leave Marina Central feeling a bit happier than when they stepped into our district.
Is there a favourite spot, view, or detail in the Colour Walk you’d love to highlight?
The Six Brushstrokes sculptures by pop artist Roy Lichtenstein: Many people may not know that Marina Central district is full of museum-quality public art that you can enjoy for free — we also have a free self-guided art trail!
Colourful swings all around the district in the outdoor public areas of Marina Square, Millenia Walk, South Beach Fountain Plaza and Suntec City: These are a nice way to relax and unwind.
Red buildings light up: Right now, the buildings across Marina Central are lit up in red in the spirit of National Day! We sometimes also light up the district in our signature teal, especially during our events which are usually free for everyone to enjoy.
